Piscean Birthright Celebration

So it was mine Keiths and Zarin's Birthday celebration early since Keith was over for a visit to Perth from Sydney. Was great to catch up with Keith again of the couple of days (even though you had glandular fever you poor bugger).

This is the new spot in Zarin's new house for her glass figurines ... (not that I've ever noticed them ever before)

Men belong in the Kitchen, Neil is a perfect example of this.

Zarin put on a great feast for all of us Pisceans to have and also all the others round the place too. Roast Beef, a huge array a fantastic salads (especially Frans noodle salad with sesame oil) and then the great Pavlova at the end...

Many people were making the most of the evening and fostering new bonds amongst each other just enjoying the feel of each others body, up close and personal.

Then a few laughs about recent pursuits....

Everyone was settling in fine, Matt noticed a spotted, velvet eared, turtle snouted, hyacinth moth flying around the room and this is why he couldn't look into the camera.

David broke his fingers that night night and insisted on not having any bandaging whatsoever.

Keith reluctantly gave in to Faye and got in a photo with her. (even though I knew it was his little reverse psychology device he uses some times in social settings, you can see the glint of satisfaction reallly in his eyes even though his body language does not really suggest and satisfaction)

Neil and David sharing a funny little secret, Zarin in the background laughing cos she was rudely overhearing their conversation. (actually I think Bruce was listening to cos he looks like he sort of knows whats going on.)
Was a good night had by all, many people came and caught up for a powerful Pisces night of celebration.

Serengeti - Eddie Jordan Limited Edition

These were half price down from $315, I have recently seen a pair or two going for a ridiculous $70. The colour is a little bit full on although the frame and shape I think is awesome. These were the first pair of decent sunglasses I bought after having returned back from over seas. They have served me well, they are about 6 years old and our dog Zosia got to them and gnawed the arms a little bit to my horror...ill just sand it smooth again are still in great condition with only their first frontal scratches on them now

It was the lens that sold me with these. Serengeti's in my opinion have the most advanced lenses available at the moment. Eyestrain is forgotten once you have a set of these.

Back to the frame, out of all the frames that I had seen on Serengeti's at the time these ones stood out. It was a pleasant chunky sports frame. The other ones I had scene were these weird, (to the point of ugly) thin metal frames, that really didn't have any descent shape, something that your grand dad would buy.

Bolle Groove - Straw Shadow Brown

I have a soft spot for earthy tortoise shell colours, and once I saw these in the Bolle Clearance shop, I couldnt go passed them. The frames are called 'Straw' and the lens is a Shadow™ Brown -A Unique light brown lens with gradient metallic gun mirror. Provides true color definition. The mirror is quite cheeky. Reduced from $125 to $40..awesome deal.

Their shape is very sleek and little seedy. I wear them around town, they are very light weight and look quite cool. The lens is good although on my sunnie days would prefer something with more coverage and better tint.

I initially though they were womens sunglasses, (wouldn't be the first time I had bought some-they are actually marketed towards woman - So what I say) and they probably are more uni-sex than anything although they really are a bit different, rather than the typical, Arnette wrap style that everyone gets round in.

Bolle Mercuria - Polarized

There is a Bolle clearance outlet in Perth at 'Harbourtown'. They also sell Serengeti's there. I came across these polarized pair of Metals. I liked the rosy amber lens and also how it contrasted with the titanium finish of the frames.

They also have a nice anti reflective coating on the interior of the lens and are also polarized. I knew that these lenses were really nice.

Sweetening the deal they had already been reduced from $249 to $125 and it was a further half price reduction on the day so I bloody well bought them. Not the coolest of frame shapes although the lenses have proved outstanding even though they are poly-carbonate. Cant beieve they retail for $250 initially....REmember .. Never pay full price!!!

Ray Ban Aviators

Here are two very nice pairs of Ray ban aviators. The left pair is a medium sized 58cm - Classic Aviator in 24ct 'Arista' gold with the 'Chromax' photochromic lens that darkens when it is exposed to sunlight.

The pair on the right is a cool pair of Rayban 'Caravan' Aviators in the Arista gold also and with the classic G-15 lens

Head to Head

Original cases- these sunglasses have been sourced from new 'old' stock from the Asian manufacturer who held the license to produce the Raybans in the Asian region in the Eighties and Nineties. Thus they are not US made although were produced to the strictest US Rayban standards making Ray Ban more accessible for the new upwardly mobile Asian clientèle....(and people like me years later, after the travesty of Rayban having now been sold off to the Multi-national sunglasses conglomerate 'Luxotica' .

Ray Bans today are a miniature shadow of their former self, Luxotica will still charge full price for them although the quality workmanship and lens quality has been reduced. The great Bausch and Lomb lenses of old have now been replaced with generic glass and poly carbonate lenses, they still provide sun protection although do not have the unique subtlety of lens clarity and definition as did the Bausch and Lomb lenses - Another one bites the dust......that's why I like to grab a legend when i can. Would love to get a pair of my Balorama's that I lost in the UK. nice tortoise shell wrap round - have seen them on Ebay for $260US although that is almost 2 and half times what I paid for them in 1993

Scott Eclipse Sportsheilds - (please click photos for larger)

These Scott Sportshields were big in the late eighties Triathlete and cycling fraternity. I think they even predated Oakley with their famous 'Eyeshades' range. Well that is how I saw it anyway. I noticed lots of Scott's like these and then 6 months later, Oakley started to dominate the segment with their Eyeshades. The Oakely's looked better.

These are an ugly pair of sunglasses although they really are sport specific, very light wait and provide excellent sun coverage due to the large wrap round lens. The pink pair predates the yellow.

The pink is a Scott Sportshield in Pink with the 'T16 Grey Lens" this lens is a medium transmission grey lens, preventing colour distortion while maintaining total UV filtration.
The neon Yellow pair are the Scott Eclipse - Sportsheild brandishing the 'T8-High Altitude Tint. Allowing 8% of visible light transmission and 100% UV protection with selective Blue light Filtration. This lens comes also with a blue metallic 'flash' coating on the exterior. This lens is a little brighter and possibly more dynamic than the grey lens.

I whack either pair out every now and then, when I go for a cruise on my bike or even in the car. Their only downfall is that the arms and hinges have some sharp edges that scratch and get a little annoying after long term use, otherwise excellent lenses.

I really like the white 'Scott' etched lenses and being able to remove the top bar, they look way better with out the neon top bar. The arms are also adjustable up and down with 3 clickable notches.
They have these clunky old nose pieces that are screwed in with tiny screws. Oakley was and is all over them in the nose piece department opting for the slide in nose piece. I'm sure these would pull through the lens eventually.

These lenses are made from 'G.E. Lexan' (Made by the laboratories of General Electric) and it is supposed to be one of the most shatter resistant materials in existence. A special proprietary hardcoat is also used to make the lenses extremely scratch-resistant. Overall am happy to have them in my collection and can cut it with the best of them in tackling Thermonuclear warfare, can become a little uncomfortable with long term use.

My White Vuarnet Unilynx Sunglasses

These white retro things are Vuarnet 003 style Unilynx Sunglasses. I was trawling Ebay and came across these and got them for a steal, everywhere else is selling that at about $120-150US. Perhaps one of the best lenses ever made, a little dark but certainly cuts out all dangerous rays and absolutely no glare no matter what situation.

These are my everyday workhorse and favourite pair at the moment. Nice clean old school stying and in white which makes em stand out like dogs balls. Real cool !!

If anyone knows any more details about Vuarnet sunglasses or any trivia please leave a message, or even if you know where I can get some cheap. Always looking!
